Science Academy Hires a Philosopher
09/14/05

Magistra Murchio teaches philosophy to the high school. This fall, new to Princeton Science Academy, a high school in Hopewell, NJ is Amelia Murchio, a recent Rutgers graduate who will be teaching Philosophy and the history of Philosophy to the high-schoolers. In addition to working at the Science Academy, Miss Murchio will be teaching Latin, Greek and Philosophy to various grades in its affiliated grammar school, Princeton Latin Academy. The headmaster, Francesco Perrulli, is thrilled with his new hire. According to him, it is important that students meet young, energetic people like Miss Murchio who are passionate about Philosophy and the Classical languages of Latin and Greek.

He added, “Some people are surprised that we teach Philosophy at a Science high school. We also teach Latin, Literature, History, and have a great Art program. We emphasize Science. Ideally, when children are in grammar school, their curriculum should emphasize language, because young children have a special aptitude for language. As they mature, the emphasis should shift to Mathematics and Science. That is how I’ve designed my schools.”
