02/01/06

10th-grader Samantha Friedman of Hillsborough, NJ in performance attireSamantha Friedman, a tenth-grader at Princeton Science Academy, recently won the NJ competition held each year by the National Association of Teachers of Singing. (NJNATS). Samantha, who aspires to be an opera singer, competed against other high school students throughout the Garden State. First winning in her division of 9th and 10th –grade female singers, Samantha went on to take the overall competition for male and female singers in grades nine through 12. At the competition, she sang Handel’s Dove Sei, Amato Bene, Berlioz’ Villanelle, and Roger Quilter’s Weep You No More.

In addition to attending Princeton Science Academy, Samantha takes voice lessons with Danielle Sinclair at the Westminster Conservatory in Princeton. Like most of PSA’s eight students, Samantha has extensive extracurricular interests and finds that a small school better enables her to pursue them.

This year’s NJNATS were held at Caldwell College in Caldwell, NJ
